Here are some updates about what is happening in 4th grade this week and in upcoming weeks. Multiplication - All fourth grade classrooms are involved in our second math unit which is multiplication. The multiplication we are going to be doing with the fourth graders this year is going to look different from the standard algorithm that we might all be familiar with. One of the methods we will be teaching is area model. Here is a brief video to watch that will introduce you to this method that the students will be learning. Another method that students will see is the partial products method. Here is a video that will briefly show you how this method looks. We will help students make the connection between both partial products and area model. The other method we will look at with students is the standard algorithm. Just as a refresher here what that method look like. If you have any questions please be sure to contact your child's teacher. Upcoming dates/information *Just Like Me - This week students will be learning about Intellectual Limitations *Hearing and Vision screening will take place this week. *Claypit Cares is November 9th at 9am in the Gym *Picture Retake day is November 10th *No School on November 11th Thank you to all the volunteers who came into 4th Grade on Oct 31st to help run the Pumpkinology investigations. It was a HUGE success and students had a wonderful time getting messy and having fun while doing both math and science. |
